Breakfast on Top of Niesen
The Niesen is a beautiful, pyramid-shaped mountain situated at the south side of the Lake of Thun between the towns of Interlaken and Thun, at the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. A funicular brings passengers in a half-hour spectacular journey from the valley station Mülenen (altitude 2’310ft) up almost to the peak of Mt. Niesen (altitude 7876ft). The funicular, which consists of two sections, was built between 1906 and 1910. Ever since then it has been under constant expert technical supervision. The journey up to Niesen Kulm takes approximately 30 minutes. Halfway up, at the middle station Schwandegg, passengers change to a steeper gradient train. While sitting in the couch one can take a glance at the world’s longest stairway that runs the length of the Niesen cable railway. |
